Chasing Rainbows .... - 22/12/08
It was the first day of the long awaited Christmas break for myself and I was looking forward to a day on the River. The Dee was still too high to fish for Grayling so myself and fishing buddy decided to try the Upper Severn. A phone call the night before gave us the all clear and the Severn would be fishable today.
We started out early to head into mid Wales with a brief stop for a full English breakfast, the weather was fine and dry with little wind so potential for the day was looking good. On arrival at the river we were greeted with a very high and coloured water, not what we were expecting. Disappointment that we had made the journey and found the river out of sorts. They must have had a huge downpour overnight !.
Plan B was to try the River Banwy a forty minute drive or so, disappointment again as the river was high also. We however were not going to give up that easy, rivers out so it was onto a stillwater we know high up in the Welsh hills, stocked with Rainbows and browns.
This stillwater is probably the most stunning stillwater I have had the pleasure of fishing, the conditions can turn on you in a matter of minutes though but at least we were going to wet a line today. It wasn't long before my buddy was into a rainbow, taken on a Bloody Butcher fished wet. Almost at the same time I was into a nice Brown, both fish returned to fight another day.
The day continued with a number of Rainbows hitting the net also a change of conditions seeing nature produce a stunning rainbow of its own, captured briefly by this shot.
A great day in the end after the disappointment of the morning, a fantastic place to fish in magnificent surroundings. Lets hope the rivers are back in favour over the next few weeks and we have a chance to fish for the Grayling.
Until Next Time..............
